Flashback

Yesterday my sister and I were perusing through the Youtube website and discovering some very interesting and unique videos.  Some people have a ton of time on their hands, let's just put it that way.  After a while, my sister and I stumbled upon one of my past loves:  NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK.  Oh my gosh, I hadn't heard them since, since, since I was in 8th grade.  I am now 32.  Suddenly, I was flooded with memories of that time.  I remember sitting in my living room in the middle of the night watching their videos and concerts on VHS and rewinding every second that Jordan Knight was on screen.  I had the biggest crush on Jordan and I was convinced that we were going to fall in love and get married and live happily ever after.  Ok, so it didn't happen, but I did get to meet him about 10 years ago and that was nice.  I met him on his birthday and he was very gracious that I remembered, or maybe scared that I knew that and he probably thought I was a stalker.  Well, that meeting didn't lead us to getting married or anything, but he was as adorable as ever.  Finding their videos on youtube was fun.  When you get a chance, go back to your childhood.  It's fun to be a kid again.  Here is a video from my favorite group growing up.

Sad Day in TV Land

I had known for a while now, but really did not want to face it-until I read the official announcement today.  One of my favorite TV characters is leaving my favorite show.  Jorja Fox who plays Sara Sidle on CSI is leaving.  She's not leaving for contract reasons or because of a fight, she wants to expand her opportunities in the acting field.  I love her character on CSI and the show will definitely not be the same, but I can't stop watching the show-it is highly addicting.

Happy Birthday, Lisa

On Monday, we celebrated my sister, Lisa's, birthday.  Lisa is the youngest in our family.  She turned __ so that just freaks me out.  To me, she'll always be the whiny seven year old who told on me for everything!!

I am so blessed to have the sister that I have in Lisa.  Not only are we sisters, she is also my best friend.  We share a bond that I know will never be broken.  She and I know what the other is thinking, we finish each other's sentences and we understand one another - it's crazy how well we know each other.  Of course we have our sister moments where we argue about the most insignificant things, but we never stay mad at one another for too long. 

My sister has been blessed with oodles of creativity.  I guess it's fitting that she serves as our Media Director.  She has grown so much in that role and I respect her tremendously for the hard work it takes to make Sundays successful.  She does a great job and I am so proud of her.

As she begins another year of life, I pray that God continue to use her for HIS glory and that He bless her with what He desires for her.  I pray that she remain steadfast and that she knows how much she is loved.

Super Sports Spectacular

I can't wait for this Sunday!  Our C-Kids Elementary will be kicking off a new series:  Super Sports Spectacular and it is going to be great.  Our kids will be learning about God through the excitement of sports.  We will be touching on themes such as integrity, teamwork, and trust, just to name a few.  This is going to be a great series.  Our leaders are excited and our kids are excited.  What makes it even more special is that our main church will be kicking off a sports themed series on Sunday too.  DREAMTEAMS.   The sports theme will resonate throughout the church.  We have some special days planned for our kids as well as we celebrate God through this great series.  It's going to be great!

5 For Now

5 quick thoughts:

1.  I'll start with Thursday.  CSI premiered and after a 3 1/2 month wait, I got to see my favorite show and I was not disappointed.  This season is going to be awesome, although there are going to be some character shifts, the story lines that will cause that to happen are going to be great.  I'm not much into TV, but I can sit and watch CSI all day long.  I LOVE IT!!!

2.  On Friday, we had a Prayer Night at Cornerstone.  It was one of the most moving and inspiring events I have had the privilege of witnessing at church.  We saw so many committed people come in to pray from 7:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.  Each person committed to pray for one hour and there was not a single hour that was not bathed in prayer.  Some people even stayed and prayed for more than an hour.  It was such a momentous step in our church and it is the fuel that is leading us to our commitment Sunday happening this coming week.  We are in the midst of our Create The Future series and the beginning of our Building Campaign.  God is rocking our world and it is only going to get better.  I can't wait for Sunday!

3.  On Sunday, we had a great time as we witnessed the baptism of 13 people.  The testimonies that were shared and the lives that are being touched through Christ - it just doesn't get any better than that.  I am so honored that God uses Cornerstone Church to touch so many.  The Rio Grande Valley is going to be transformed with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ and I am so excited to be part of it.

4.  Our children's ministry is having a blast with their series.  Our Elementary kids are finishing up their Berry Blast Theme Park series.  It's been a wild ride learning about the fruit of the Spirit.  This coming Sunday we will be having a Berry Blast Blow-out with games, prizes, and food.  It's going to be a great time of fun as we review the juicy fruits.  Our toddlers and pre-school kids have been Sailing the C's and learning some great truths along the way.  They've also made a new friend in a little character named "Sharky".  He is so funny.  Our little ones are having a blast.

5.  Commitment Sunday-October 7.  This is the day we have been praying for.  For the last 5 weeks we have been challenging our people, casting vision, and laying the groundwork for our CREATE THE FUTURE Building Campaign.  On Sunday, we will be giving our initial offering and commitments for the next three years.  It is going to be a tremendous day and I can't wait to see Cornerstone creating the future together.  Our theme verse for our campaign is Nehemiah 2:18 "'Let us rise up and build.'  Then they set their hands to this good work."    That is what we will be doing on Sunday.  We will be setting our hands, our talents, our treasures, and our commitments to this great work.
